Cool Pools & Hot Reads: Making a Splash with Summer Literacy
By: Isabella Crook, Volunteer Engagement Associate & Lead Literacy Instructor
Splish, splash, let’s have a blast! Sunshine, poolside, shades on, we’re taking a dive into summer reading all together at your local pool!
Our core values of Center For Success Network just happen to align perfectly with this new “Cool Pool” initiative. We are implementing this campaign in various different places where community and connection go hand and hand. A diverse set of public and private pools around Southeast Michigan, bringing literacy to you while continuously growing our impact by fulfilling our mission to empower students in the journey of education. We are actively serving 6 community pool areas including Birmingham, Rochester Hills, Fraser, Troy, and Farmington for the 2025 summer season. We are surely leaping in a cannon ball deep! Each Cool Pool is stacked with a CFSN bookshelf with a wide variety of literature for all ages to share or keep, interactive read aloud events, and family fun for everyone inside or outside.
Becoming involved with CFSN doesn’t just stop there… Once you get in touch it opens up a plethora of new community resources at your fingertips. We have several volunteer opportunities in-person or virtual during the summer or school program year, tailored to whatever works best for you. Anyone from high school on, is more than welcome to sign up by scanning a QR code at one of the pools to become a literacy mentor with CFSN.
So whether we are learning about letters, how to do the butterfly stroke, or just floating around with a good read, we are surely destined to have fun in the sun! So pick up a good story poolside and submerge yourself into a world of endless imagination.
